There is not a greater possession we have than the Scriptures! David said in Psalm 19, "More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb." What could be more unifying as a church body than studying the Bible systematically together? Let's commit to following this plan together and speaking to one another as often as possible about the great truths of the Bible.
The Robert Murray M'Cheyne Reading Plan will take us through the Old Testament once and the New Testament and Psalms twice over the next 365 days. Each day's reading is only around four chapters, and the plan will help us become familiar with all the major themes of the Bible. Our official reading schedule begins on April 1, but it might be helpful to get a head start now to build in a buffer for potential days missed later. Here are a few suggestions to consider as you begin the plan:
- Consider using this free Bible study app made available by Grace To You. Utilize the audio function to have the app read to you as you follow along.
- In addition to the reading plan, consider choosing one of the four Gospel (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) and read through it slowly and methodically.
- If you have children, have them go through it with you. Read it to them at night before bed. How awesome for our children to have "read" the entire Bible at their age?!
- Keep a notepad handy, and write down observations and questions about the text. Use your notes to discuss the readings with other Christians at church. Let's disciple one another through this time!
